What are Smart Recycling Bins?

In previous posts, we’ve talked about how you can use a company’s recycling policies in order to recycle old or unused technology. However, you may find that some companies don’t offer this policy, and some won’t even allow you to return the technology back. So you may be stuck, wondering what you can do in order to properly recycle your old piece of tech. However, a recent innovation has begun to make recycling much easier. Let’s talk about smart recycling bins.

Before we talk about the bins, let’s discuss smart waste management. Smart waste management is the process of measuring, collecting, separating, and recycling trash. This is achieved through the use of sensors and devices that increase the accuracy and improve efficiency. A smart bin leverages this through the use of technologies such as machine learning, Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), and robotics. Utilizing AI, they use CNNs to identify what is trash and what needs to be recycled, allowing for them to sort the pieces accordingly.

How do they work, you might ask. Well, it starts with the sensor inside recognizing when an item has been deposited, and from there, using AI and ML, the smart bin puts the item in the correct section, or their corresponding bin. The smart bin also monitors the capacity of each bin, and they will let a team know if either of the bins is approaching maximum capacity.

Those are the basics on smart bins. However, they make it much easier while recycling as you don’t have to worry about disposing items into the wrong sections. So, if you don’t have any programs nearby that allow you to recycle your tech, you can go to smart bins and they can help you complete that task. Thank you for reading!
